Sign up for freeThe Dutch future simple tense is used to talk about an event in the future. The verb 'zullen', which is used to form the present future simple, is the formal way of talking about a future event. Therefore, the linking verb 'zullen' is a translation of 'shall' and not 'will'.

The following rule is used to form the formal form of the Dutch simple future:
'zullen' (to shall) + the infinitive.

As mentioned above the Dutch mainly use another, more informal, way of expressing a future action by using the verb 'gaan' (to go).
