What is the future simple in Spanish?

The formation of the future simple

The formation of this tense is probably the simplest of all tenses. We just need the infinitive of the verb + add the endings -é, -ás, -á, emos, -éis, -án. These endings are the same for all verbs (-AR, -ER, -IR).

Regular conjugations of the futuro simple

Most verbs are regularly conjugated in the futuro simple and are very easy to form.

Irregular conjugations of the futuro simple

Some of the verbs in future have an irregular stem but we still add the regular endings -é, -ás, -á, emos, -éis, -án

Note that ser and estar are highly irregular verbs except in the future that follow the regular pattern

When to use the futuro próximo?

The futuro simple is used to indicate plans or actions that will take place in the future. However, the future tense in Spanish communicates other messages as well.

Actions or events that will happen or are likely to happen at a future time.

• Mañana veré a Ana. (Tomorrow I will see Ana).
• La fiesta será el viernes. (The party will be on Friday).

To express a conjecture, supposition, or probability in the present

• La chica que viene, ¿será Ana María?   (The girl who is coming, can it be Ana María?)
• Estaremos a 20 km de Valencia (We must be 20 km away from Valencia)
• ¿Cuánto costará ese bolso tan bonito? (I wonder how much this beautiful bag costs)

Note that in the las example the English equivalent is an indirect question preceeded by I wonder
