Sign up for freeThis chapter will discuss how to order food and drinks in a Dutch restaurant. Even though most of the Dutch speak English, you might come across that one person that does not speak it very well. Therefore, a bit of vocabulary might come in handy.
'Een ober' (a waiter) might ask one of the following questions when you are at a restaurant.

Have you chosen already? | Heeft u al een keuze kunnen maken? |
What would you like to order? | Wat wilt u bestellen? |
What would you like to drink? | Wat wilt u drinken? |
What would you like to eat? | Wat wilt u eten? |
Would you like a starter? | Wilt u beginnen met een voorafje (voorgerecht)? |
When you have not made a decision yet, you may say one of the following phrases.

One moment, please. | Een momentje, graag. |
I don't know yet. | Ik weet het nog niet. |
What can you recommend? | Wat kunt u adviseren? |
What is the daily special? | Wat is de dagspecialiteit? |
To order something, the verb 'graag willen' (would like) is used:
