Gli ordinali sono quei numeri che rispondono alla domanda: “In che ordine?”. Si utilizzano per distribuire gli oggetti in una sequenza.
Come avrete sicuramente notato, la costuzione del numero ordinale consiste nella semplice aggiunta del suffisso -th (eccetto i primi tre che cambiano completaente) fino al diciannovesimo, poi per le decine si sostituisce la -y con -ienth, e gli altri numeri si costruiscono come i numerali: 22= twenty-second.

Regole ortografiche
I numeri ordinali possono essere abbreviati con st per first, nd per second, rd per third e poi th per tutti gli altri, ecco alcuni esempi: 21st century, 43rd, 64th.
Per motivi fonetici:
-five e twelve perdono la sillaba ve e diventano fifth e twelft
-nine perde la e e diventa ninth
-tutti i numeri che terminano con la y (le decine)cambiano la y in ie: 70° seventieth.
