Outer locative cases in Estonian

Estonian has three outer locative cases, which like the inner locative cases, answer the questions where to? where? where from? The outer locative cases indicate location or movement in relation to the surface or the environment of something.

1. Allative case - indicates movement towards something. It answers the questions 'where to?', 'on(to) whom?' and 'on(to) what?'.
2. Adessive case - indicates location on top of something. It answers the questions 'where (at)?', 'on (top of) whom?' and 'on (top of) what?'.
3. Ablative case - indicates movement off or away from something. It answers the questions 'where from?', 'off whom? away from whom?' and 'off what? away from what?'.

The outer locative cases are constructed by adding the endings -le, -l, -lt to the genitive form.

1. Allative: tänavale = onto the street
2. Adessive: tänaval = on the street
3. Ablative: tänavalt = from the street
