Reciprocal verbs in Turkish

The reciprocal verb gives a meaning of an action that is done together with another person. In English one would say `one another`. In Turkish, the suffix -(i)ş is used to provide this meaning. It is formed by adding the suffix to the verb root. The reciprocal mood can only be used with certain verbs.

• Active: Onu iki senedir tanıyorum. (I know her for two years.)
• Reciprocal: Onunla iki sene önce tanıştık. (We met with each other two years ago.)

• Active: O kız arkadaşını öpmedi. (He didn't kiss his girlfriend.)
