They always precede the noun and they are never preceded by an article.
In Italian there are only three interrogative adjectives:

Quale/i and che are used to ask something about the quality or the identity of the noun.
Quale squadra?

Che colore?

Quanto/a/i/e are used to ask something about a quantity.
Quanto tempo?
How long/how much time?

Exclamatory adjectives have the same form as interrogative adjectives.
They introduce a surprise or wonder for the quantity or the quality of the noun.
Che brutta giornata!
What a bad day!
Quante caramelle!
How many sweets!
